Building Community Through Collaborative Mural Making Workshop with Jaylin Stewart

Join artist Jaylin Stewart for a hands-on mural-painting workshop where families and community members create art together. You'll work as a group to design and paint a large collaborative mural, learning techniques like composition, layering acrylic paint, and adding texture with charcoal. The workshop starts with tracing a projected design onto canvas, then everyone paints together to bring neighborhood scenes to life—streets, homes, parks, trees, and gathering spaces all come together through your collective efforts. This session builds on ideas shared in an earlier workshop, and participants will also incorporate mixed-media figures they created previously, arranging them throughout the mural to tell a unified story of community and belonging. The experience wraps up with a group reflection where everyone shares what they see in the finished artwork and how it represents your collective memories and vision of home.
