Día de los Muertos (2026)

The Louisville Zoo is hosting a meaningful Día de los Muertos celebration to honor pets and Zoo animals that have passed away. This traditional Day of the Dead observance recognizes the animals that brought joy to visitors and staff, and touched everyone's hearts. The Zoo will create a special ofrenda—a decorated altar—as part of this heartfelt remembrance. This family-friendly event runs November 1–2 and is included free with your Zoo admission or membership. You'll experience the vibrant traditions of Día de los Muertos, a celebration rooted in Mexican and other cultures that honors and remembers those we've lost. Expect to see traditional elements like marigolds and references to monarch butterflies, which migrate to Mexico around this same time each year. It's a joyful, respectful way to celebrate the lives and memories of beloved animal companions.
