Escape from Shell!

Escape from Shell!

Learn how cephalopods evolved from armored shells to free-swimming squids and octopuses.

Your family is invited to explore the fascinating world of cephalopods at this hour-long program led by our Seasonal Naturalist. You'll discover how these remarkable creatures evolved from armored ancestors millions of years ago into the flexible squids and octopuses we know today. The presentation features real fossils spanning from the Ordovician period all the way through the Cretaceous era, giving kids and adults alike a window into prehistoric ocean life. The program wraps up with a look at modern cephalopods that still retain shells from their ancient past—a perfect finale to understanding this incredible evolutionary journey. The entire experience takes place in the Falls of the Ohio State Park Interpretive Center rotunda and includes admission to the exhibit gallery. Best of all, the $7 program fee is fully covered by a grant from the Falls of the Ohio Foundation, so there's no cost to your family.
