FREE History Lecture Series: Riverfront Reflections

Waterfront Park is hosting a monthly history lecture series led by local historian Rick Bell, with sessions running through October 2026. Each one-hour talk dives into a different chapter of Louisville's past—from the city's earliest settlement at Fort-on-Shore to memorable figures, natural disasters, and industrial development. Topics range from the Great Flood of 1937 to the impact of Prohibition, C. Lee Cook's remarkable inventions, and the stories behind beloved neighborhood landmarks. These lectures are completely free and offer a chance to learn about the people and events that shaped the community. Sessions happen on Sundays from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m. at the PlayPort Event Building, conveniently located near the Portland and Russell neighborhoods. Free parking is available in the Aqua Parking Lot just north of the facility. While the series is open to all ages, the content and presentation style are geared toward adult learners and older teens with an interest in local history. No registration fee applies—just show up or register in advance if you'd like to receive notifications about any schedule changes.
