Kentucky Shakespeare brings a fresh take on a beloved classic to the Actors Theatre stage with this Louisville premiere adaptation by celebrated playwright Lauren Gunderson. Rather than focusing on the famous March sisters as we know them from the novel, this production tells the real-life story of Louisa May Alcott's actual sisters. The show captures the energy and heart of their lives in 19th century New England—following Jo, Meg, Beth, and Amy as they navigate growing up, pursue adventures, experience romance, and support each other while their father is away at war. With their mother Marmee guiding them and their spirited neighbor Laurie adding excitement to their days, the production explores themes of family bonds, resilience, and one determined young writer's journey to find her place in the world. This lively adaptation works well for families who love this timeless story or enjoy character-driven theater. Tickets are $30 per person, and performances run about two and a half hours.
