Louisville to Liberty: The Blackburns' Journey

This exhibition at the Frazier History Museum tells the remarkable true story of Thornton and Lucie Blackburn, who escaped slavery in Louisville in 1831 and eventually reached freedom in Toronto, Canada. For over two decades, archaeologist Dr. Karolyn Smardz Frost researched their journey, which became the subject of her book *I've Got a Home in Glory Land*—the first complete life story of an Underground Railroad couple published since the Civil War. Now their story returns home to Kentucky through this special exhibit. What makes this exhibition unique is the chance to see artifacts that belonged to Thornton and Lucie for the first time ever displayed in the United States. These objects were discovered during an archaeological dig at a schoolyard and offer tangible connections to their lives.
