Nature(+)6: Beginning Observational Drawing
Learn observational drawing in nature at Bernheim Arboretum.
This six-week course teaches the basics of observational drawing using plants and natural materials found at Bernheim as your subjects. Led by artist and educator Teresa Koester, you'll learn foundational techniques including line, shape, value, and texture while working with charcoal, pencil, pen, and ink. The class encourages you to slow down and really look at the details around you—it's as much about finding a calm, meditative practice as it is about creating realistic artwork. All ability levels are welcome, and classes move between indoor and outdoor spaces depending on the weather.
Each two-hour session builds your confidence with approachable, step-by-step methods that make visual information easier to manage. You'll need to bring your own supplies (a materials list is provided). Registration covers all six classes and costs $160 for Bernheim members or $180 for non-members. You must register by 4 p.m. the day before the program starts. For registration or questions, call (502) 215-7155 or email the program coordinator. Please note that pets are not permitted.
