Nature(+)6: Beginning Observational Drawing

Learn observational drawing in nature at Bernheim Arboretum — a hands-on art workshop for budding artists.

Join teaching artist Teresa Koester for a six-week course in observational drawing inspired by the natural world around you. Using botanical materials found at Bernheim as your subjects, you'll learn foundational techniques that help you see more carefully and draw with confidence. The program covers line, shape, value, and texture while working with charcoal, pencil, pen, and ink. Classes blend indoor and outdoor instruction, weather permitting, so you'll apply these skills in real natural settings. This course welcomes artists of all skill levels and offers a meditative, grounding practice—not just technical instruction. You'll need to bring your own supplies (a materials list is provided). The six-week registration costs $160 for Bernheim members and $180 for non-members. To sign up, call (502) 215-7155 or register online; registration closes at 4 p.m. the day before the program starts. Please note that pets are not permitted at this program.
