Sketchbook Saturday: Building Artistic Skills One Page at a Time

Sketchbook Saturday is an ongoing art program at the Floyd County Carnegie Library Cultural Arts Center that helps young artists build drawing skills through regular practice. Each session introduces new techniques and creative challenges that build on each other over time. Your child will explore observation drawing, shading, composition, perspective, and other foundational skills while learning to develop their own artistic voice. The program welcomes artists of all experience levels—beginners can establish strong basics while more experienced young artists can refine their techniques. Throughout the program, participants work with guided instruction and independent exploration to use their sketchbook as a tool for experimenting and growing as an artist. All supplies, including the sketchbook itself, are provided for you. The class emphasizes that artistic growth happens through consistent practice and curiosity. Children under 10 need to be accompanied by a parent, caregiver (at least 13 years old), or guardian who provides direct supervision and maintains visual contact throughout. Registration is required to participate.
